Housing Trust Left Elderly Residents Without Heating For 6 Days
Elderly residents at a housing complex in Norwich were left without heating for six days, it has been revealed.
The heating issues occured over the Easter break when a boiler fault left residents at the Victory Housing Trust-run complex without heating and with limited hot water since Friday 6th April.
Resident Eddie Woods said he was concerned about some of the complex’s more vulnerable people, where some residents are in their 90s.
A spokesman for Victory Housing apologised about the heating problems, and said their contractors will fix the problem by replacing a pump and control units.
“Residents have had access to hot water in their bathrooms,” he said. Residents were also provided with temporary heating units.
To make up for the inconvenience caused, he added that people would have their service charges reduced to make up for the additional cost of the temporary heating solutions.
The 25-flat complex was visited by the housing group’s team to give updates and reassurance.
The heating problems arose not long after the complex had issues with a faulty lift.
The spokesman added: “It’s just an unfortunate coincidence these two breakdowns have happened in close proximately to each other. All the properties of Victory Housing have been brought up to standard since they were taken over six years ago.”
Temporary heating helped save the day for the elderly residents, so temporary underfloor heating can always help if your boiler is faulty.
Local Council offers temporary heating scheme
St Edmundsbury Borough Council is one of the latest councils to have secured funding for the Government’s ‘Warm Homes Healthy People’ scheme.
The project is aimed at people over the age of 60, families on a low income or with children, as well as young people with learning disabilities.
Those in ‘fuel poverty’ (spending more than 10 per cent of their income to achieve the temperatures needed to maintain health and comfort) are advised to see whether they are eligable for the scheme.
The scheme can also offer installation of free community alarms with extreme temperature sensors in vulnerable people’s homes, which is supported by a befriending service to monitor conditions. It also offers temporary heating solutions in the form of a heater loan scheme and free emergency boiler repairs service for vulnerable households.
The overall health impact of cold private housing is thought to cost the NHS more than £850 million a year, so it is important to ensure that you and your family are receiving the heating services you require. Experts warn that badly insulated, poorly heated homes make a huge contribution to winter deaths and cold-related illness in vulnerable people. If your boiler does break down, it is wise to invest in temporary heater hire, otherwise it could cause health problems for members of your family.
Emergency Warmth For 1,300 Japanese Families
The devastating Japanese Tsunami of 2011 recently just had its first anniversary, but people are still suffering the after effects even after a year on.
Many people who were affected by the tsunami had to find other means of accomodation, such as temporary housing including Mr Shiga, an elderly Japanese gentleman. After spending three months sleeping a gym, he found a temporary apartment in Shiga City. However, as most apartments in Japan don’t have central heating, when winter rolled around he was left without any form of heating.
Mr. Shiga couldn’t afford temporary heating solutions so relief came when he and 1,300 other Japanese families received electric space heaters funded by a $250,000 grant from AmeriCares.
Mr and Mrs Shogi explained that they were happy to receive the heater as they receive little assistance outside of rent money which would mean they would have to go without heating otherwise.
During the winter months it is very important to ensure that you have adequate heating resources, especially if you are or know someone who is elderly.
If the boiler at your place of business stops working, we at Ideal Heat Solutions can provide temporary boiler hire services to you so that your workforce isn’t left without heating for too long.

Residents’ Anger At Heating System Woes
Upset residents have demanded that a housing association fixes their faulty heating system after suffering through the cold for two years.
Residents of about 20 properties in Castlerigg Way, Maidenbower in Crawley claim they are paying up to £2,000 a year in electricity bills, despite not having any proper heating.
The properties are managed by Affinity Sutton, one of the largest providers of social housing in the UK. The residents claim that commercial boiler repairs have not been performed in the properties since they were built almost two years ago.
Kirsty Phelps, 24, has suffered from a lack of heating since moving into her property in March 2010.
She said: “My daughter suffers from bronchitis and the lack of proper heating is making it worse.
“It’s been an absolute nightmare. There was no heating when it snowed, and when there is heating it isn’t hot enough. It’s ridiculous. You can’t live like this with small children.”
The situation demonstrates that commercial and industrial boiler repairs are required quickly if heating systems stop working, otherwise energy bills could be very expensive. If your commercial boilers are broken then enlist Ideal Heat Solutions’ commercial boiler repairs London and UK.

Pupils Win Eco Grant For School
Pupils from Sneyd Green Primary School have won eco funding for their school after presenting their energy saving ideas before a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style panel.
Rebecca Dawes and Yasmin Kok were hand-picked by their teachers to work on a project about saving energy and cash, as part of the Low Carbon Schools scheme. The pair gave a presentation on their energy efficient ideas to a panel, composed of professionals from Balfour Beatty and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
10 year old Yasmin said: “We found out the heating was coming on at 3am, when it was not needed.
“We put up posters asking people to switch off lights and computers.
“We are also going to take an assembly talking about how to save energy.”
Their ideas helped to lower the school’s energy rating from 114 to 111, even though a flood hit the school’s heating supply. Until they undertook commercial boiler repairs, they had six industrial sized dehumidifiers and six boilers constantly on for six weeks.
The scenario shows that commercial and industrial boiler repairs are required as fast as possible if your heating system gives out, otherwise you could be paying out large amounts in energy bills. If your commercial or industrial boilers are faulty then make use of Ideal Heat Solutions’ commercial boiler repairs London and UK.

Severe Weather Warning In Britain Today
Forecasters have warned of a 24 hour cold snap in parts of Britain today.
Severe weather warnings have been issued in many regions, with up to four inches of snow expected to fall in Northern England and Scotland.
A spokesperson for the Met Office, Dan Williams, said the extremely cold weather would be a ‘short-lived event’. Milder temperatures are likely to return tomorrow.
He said: ‘If we continue to get winds coming off the Atlantic from a westerly direction, these will bring mild air over the UK. If the wind changes to an easterly flow, it has the potential to bring cold air from continental Europe.
The harsh weather could cause a significant strain on heating systems for businesses, so if your heating system breaks down then contact Ideal Heating Solutions for industrial boiler repairs and commercial boiler repairs services. We also cover commercial boiler repairs London and across the UK.
The weather conditions are likely to affect roads in certain areas, so beware of hazardous driving conditions.

London’s First Energy For Waste Heating Service
Heat produced from burning waste could soon be used to heat homes in Southwark in London. The scheme is the first of its kind to hit the capital.
Southwark council have released details about the proposals. They involve plans to capture heat that is normally released into the environment from the South East London Combined Heat and Power Plant. The produced heat would then be piped into industrial boiler houses that serve around 3000 houses and seven estates in the borough.
Currently there are only a few district heating schemes within the UK which use heat from an incinerator. These include ones in operation in Sheffield and Nottingham.
If the scheme is approved, it will be the first in use in the capital.
If such a system is put in place, more commercial boiler repairs and industrial boiler repairs will likely be needed as Southwark aims to use roughly 30% of the heat produced. It is hoped that there will be potential to increase the scheme in future.
Ideal Heat Solutions provide a full maintenance service and commercial boiler repairs London and across the UK.
Renewable energies to be major power source by 2030
A report commissioned by WWF announced that the UK could be powered primarily by renewable energy sources by 2030. This is without the need for additional nuclear power plans, according to the report. Approximately 60 – 90% of the U.Ks electricity could be provided through solar, wind and tidal sources, all of which are natural and sustainable worldwide. The remaining percentage would be supplied via international grid lines, supporting multiple networks as part of a larger infrastructure.
“This report is inspiring, but also entirely realistic. It shows that a clean, renewable energy future really is within our grasp. Failure to commit to a high-renewables future would leave us facing the prospect of dangerous levels of climate change and high energy prices.” said David Nussbaum, chief executive of WWF-UK.
The report has been welcomed by major energy companies, temporary boiler hire companies, and the UK Government, particularly since rising energy costs have become a major political issue. Only last month Prime Minister David Cameron held a meeting with leading energy companies to discuss lower tarrifs and a fair playing field across the top 6 UK energy suppliers.
Alongside the obvious benefits to the eco system, the WWF report also claims that investing into the developement of renewable energy sources will develop thousands of jobs for Britons.
“Investing in clean energy offers us a means to tackle the two most crucial market failures that now confront the world: the financial crisis and climate change,” said Nussbaum. “The only question that remains is, are we bold enough to take it?”
Another report from the Governments Energy and Climate Change Committee has called for an increase in the amount of gas stored in the UK. This is in a bid to minimise the impact from supply interuptions or sharp increases in purchase prices from suppliers. These types of unexpected increases or disruptions have a direct knock on effect to energy companies, particualr those supplying industrial boiler repairs and temporary heating services. The UKs 14 days storage of Gas is incredibly low compaired to other European countries, such as France with 87 days worth of gas, Germany with 69 and Italy with 59 days of gas stored for services.
The committee’s report additionally calls for much more gas storage capacity in the UK, to minimise the damage from supply interruptions or price spikes. The UK’s current storage capacity is just 14 days’ worth of gas, states the report, “a dangerously low level compared with France which has 87 days’ worth of gas storage, Germany 69 and Italy 59.”
Dyson release new heating technology
Dyson, the household brand name that revolutionised the hoover and fans, have now turned their technology hands to heaters, releasing the Dyson Hot Luxury Heating System. Using their proprietary technology (Air Multiplier Technology), the luxury heating system heats rooms quickly and evenly by passing air through a mixed flow impeller and then speeding it up through an aperture set, containing a special loop amplifier.
As a temporary heating system the latest development from Dyson is hoped to be a big hit across the country, with consumers expected to be able to purchase it from December 2011. The heaters ability to detect the drop of room temperature and then activate in order to increase temperature back to normal is the key selling point specificied by market analysts.
It took 22 commercial boiler repair engineers three years to complete the project.
Energy prices on the increase from EDF Energy
EDF, the leading utilities company in the UK, have announced a 15.4pc increase in gas tariffs as they join the rest of the market in increasing market prices.
EDF have joined the other 5 major power suppliers, meaning that brits will see higher costs this winter for gas and electricity services.
As written by the Telegraph, Vincent De Rivaz said that because of EDFs nuclear energy sources they were able to delay the increase in costs of service, however the position in the market has reached such a point where it was inevitable that the cost increase would have to be passed onto the consumers.
As a result, commercial boiler repairs will now be more saught after as business owners try to maintain existing power plant systems as supposed to replacing with brand new equipment (another cost which they do not want).
Sobek Stelmaczonek of Ideal Heat Solutions, the temporary heating specialists says:
“The current economy is causing havoc for all utility companies, and unfortunately commodities such as Gas and Water will see an increase purely on the basis of global demand. Services that we provide such as Industrial boiler Services will be on the increase purely because business owners and managers will be under pressure to save budgets.”
