The article states that since 2018, headteachers in 48 council areas had been forced to shut schools fully or partially 1,250 times due to ‘storm damage, utility issues, structural problems, floods, gas leaks, boiler faults, pests or ceiling collapses.’ A further statistic says that 24,000 school buildings, around 38% of the total, are functioning beyond their design life.
