The Brief
Ideal Heat Solutions have been the preferred supplier of temporary boilers for our client.
Our client already had an existing temporary boiler that was operational onsite. Originally the requirement was to extend the hose run by 75m on this existing boiler to provide an additional heat source on the construction site. However, after a site survey and closer inspection, Ideal Heat’s engineers established that the extended hose run would significantly decrease the pressure on the existing packaged boiler, which would result in our client not being able to meet their original objective of creating an additional heat source.
Our client therefore required an additional temporary boiler to be delivered to their existing construction site at Battersea, London.
The Objective
Our engineers were familiar with the installation site, which helped. However, excluding the 24 hour delivery and install requirement, there were some additional challenges that our team had to overcome.
Our client required a 500kW containerised oil fired boiler with a 3000 litre bunded fuel tank and 160m of DN50 hose for the flow and return along an 80m run.
If Ideal Heat Solutions were unable to deliver on the client’s objective, it would have meant delays to the construction of the underground swimming pool and potential revenue losses due to construction work grounding to a halt.
The Technical Part
Boiler Required:
500kW Packaged Boiler (Oil Fired)
Fuel Tank Required:
3000 Litre Bunded Fuel Tank
Connections and Hose Requirements:
Pipes – DN50 hose BSP Cons (x 160m)
Challenges and Obstacles
The temporary boiler had to be installed in the underground car park and the 100m hose to be secured to brackets upon the ceiling of the car park.
Due to the location of where the boiler was required to be installed, structurally the land was unable to take the weight of the boiler plant and the transportation vehicle. This meant that we had to ensure a transportation vehicle with a longer reach was utilised. In addition to this, we could only fill the 3000 bunded fuel tank with 1000 litres of oil to further reduce the weight and ensure the installation could be completed successfully. An additional fuel delivery had to be arranged, post commissioning of the boiler.
How Ideal Heat Solutions met the client’s objectives
Our rapid response team were deployed immediately upon receiving the call from our client. The scope of work established and the additional boiler plant room delivered and commissioned within 24 hours.
Bespoke hose bracketing was installed in the ceiling of the car park so that a hose could be run to the required connection points.
Additional heat was supplied to the specified location and the construction work was able to continue with no delays.
Outcome
The client was extremely happy that construction work was able to continue with no delays and that the additional heat source was supplied on time.
