Objective

Our client was the Contracts Manager of a large property development in Soho, London. The development was struggling with unreliable heating and hot water equipment. Old and inefficient boilers meant maintenance was becoming problematic, untenable, and costly. Each boiler breakdown caused significant inconvenience and had the potential to damage our client’s reputation. The risk of boiler breakdown was high, as Christmas approached a contingency plan was put in place to install a reliable temporary boiler onsite. The temporary boiler would also provide an uninterrupted supply of heat and hot water to the development during the planned installation of permanent boilers in the New Year.

Briefing

Time pressures dictated a quick turnaround of this installation. The temporary boiler needed to be in place before the Christmas period began. Ideal Heat Solutions would need to ascertain exact requirements, ensure correct connectivity is in place then dispatch and install a temporary boiler immediately. Our installation engineer will connect the new boiler to the existing circuit in preparation for a seamless exchange when needed.

The Technical Part

A temporary plant room needed to be installed alongside the existing supply. Time was paramount, the project would need to proceed quickly and with contingency planning to prevent any potential delays. We immediately began a dialogue with our client to explain the exact electrical power supply requirements as well as the size of the isolation valves needed. The temporary boiler to be installed was 500kW. This would require a single phase 32 amp electrical supply. For connection to the existing system, a 100 mm PN16 flange fitting was required for the isolation valves.

This discussion allowed the client to have a power and water supply in place prior to delivery. Ideal Heat’s temporary boiler was easily installed via connections to the existing system. Ideal heat’s two-way BMS remote monitoring system would alert us immediately to any issues but our engineer remained onsite for two hours to ensure complete stability of the system.
